FINANCIAL CONTROLLER | SAVANNAH, GA
You probably haven’t heard of us yet - and that’s exactly why this role is exciting.
Aertssen is a family-owned European logistics group with 60 years of history, 2,500 employees and operations in over 30 countries. We specialize in heavy machinery logistics for the world’s largest OEMs - think equipment that builds construction, agriculture and mining. No quarterly earnings pressure. No private equity playbook. Just a family that reinvests in growth, and a leadership team that actually knows your name.
We opened our first U.S. facility in Savannah in 2024, and we’re scaling fast. This isn’t a corporate transplant with layers of bureaucracy shipped over from Europe - it’s a ground-floor operation where decisions happen in the room, not in a committee three time zones away.
We’re looking for a Controller who wants to help build the financial backbone of our U.S. business. Not manage a process someone else designed - actually build it.
WHY THIS IS DIFFERENT FROM YOUR CURRENT JOB
• You’re not a number. This is a tight-knit team where you work directly with the Director of Finance & Administration - and regularly with U.S. and European leadership. No five layers between you and the people making decisions.
• You’re building, not maintaining. New systems, new reports, new models. You’ll have a say in how the finance function is shaped from the ground up.
• You’re backed by something real. Unlike a startup that might run out of runway, you’re joining a company with a €550 million revenue base and decades of operational expertise behind it.
• Long-term thinking. Family-owned means we plan in years, not quarters. Your work has lasting impact - and so does your career here.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Financial Reporting & Analysis
Build and improve monthly, quarterly and annual reporting. Analyze financial and operational performance, spot trends, flag risks and surface opportunities. Create dashboards, KPIs and matrix reports that give leadership clear, actionable insight into how the business is performing. Help safeguard data quality and consistency across all reporting.
Budgeting & Forecasting
Support the full budget and forecast cycle. Partner with department leads to understand and challenge assumptions. Track actuals against plan and help explain what’s driving the results.
Month-End & Year-End Close
Support close activities alongside the accounting team. Review key P&L and balance sheet accounts for accuracy and completeness. Keep internal and group reporting deadlines on track, and find ways to make the process more efficient.
Business Partnering
Work with operations, sales and other teams to connect day-to-day decisions to financial outcomes. Translate numbers into clear insights for non-financial colleagues. Be the person people come to when they want to understand what’s really going on.
Strategic Support
Help build business cases for new investments, expansion opportunities and strategic decisions. Develop financial models and scenarios that support long-term planning. Contribute to analyses that help shape the direction of our U.S. operations.
Process & Systems Improvement
Help standardize and optimize finance processes as the organization scales. Identify gaps, propose solutions, and support the rollout of new tools and reporting structures.
All responsibilities are carried out in accordance with the company’s quality, environmental and health & safety policies.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
• 3 to 5 years in FP&A, financial controlling or a similar finance role
• Strong analytical mindset - you want to understand the “why” behind the numbers
• Advanced Excel skills and experience building financial models; Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O experience is a plus
• Comfortable working across departments and communicating with people at all levels • A self-starter mentality - you don’t wait to be told what needs to happen
• Some out-of-state travel required (<10%)
THIS ROLE IS IDEAL FOR SOMEONE WHO
• Gets excited about building something, not just maintaining it
• Wants to understand how the business really works
• Takes ownership, thinks critically and is eager to grow into a key financial partner
• Values close collaboration with management and thrives when trusted with meaningful work
• Doesn’t shy away from new challenges, even when it’s unfamiliar territory
OUR CULTURE (A WORK IN PROGRESS!) At Aertssen, our motto is “People, Power, and Passion to Build On.” We’re a results-driven, operationally focused organization where decisions are made quickly and leadership stays close to the business. We’re not perfect - we’re building our culture just like we’re building our U.S. presence. If you’re the kind of person who’d rather shape a culture than inherit one, you’ll fit right in.
WHAT WE OFFER
• Real impact in a high-growth environment backed by a stable, established group
• A seat at the table - not a seat in the back row
• An international organization that genuinely values collaboration and accountability
• Competitive compensation plus monthly car allowance
